Report

This was always going to be a difficult match against a team who have scored double figures four times this season and will win the league easily.Indeed after about five minutes and already 3-0 down it looked like being a long afternoon but credit to the boys they kept their heads up and never stopped battling with Hayden and Rylie getting in some solid last ditch tackles ably assisted by Jake and Will after a shaky start,Michael did well mopping up when the defence was broached and when he was beaten he had no chance to make the save.James was all over the pitch taking goal kicks, corners and most of the throws as well as doing a sterling job with Haydn in the centre of midfield.Oliver ran tirelessly trying to get in good positions and Thomas was so near to unlocking a very good Fleetwood defence on a few occasions,Jamie and Dylan did good work down the flanks when they got the chance and also came back and helped the defence out.

Half Time 6-0

Whilst I was impressed with the boys attitude in the first half after the first five minutes I was so proud of them in the second half as they actually started to take the game to Fleetwood on occasion and were unlucky that they did not create a few more scoring opportunities with Thomas in particular very unlucky a couple of times when defenders got a touch more by luck than judgement to prevent him breaking clear.A couple of long range shots a freekick from James and a couple of scrambles on the edge of their box could on another day with a bit of luck resulted in Layton getting on the score sheet.Finlay tried very hard to create something for the forwards and Sam and Bailey took over on the flanks and were right in Fleetwoods faces not giving them time to create to much.Matty came on for Jake at right back and then switched to left back and got in numerous tackles and played the ball up the wings away from danger for his best performance yet in a Layton shirt. We conceded two in the second half one of which was unstoppable but this was Laytons best half of the season by a mile and the boys should be very proud of the attitude and bravery shown by all.WELL DONE

Full Time 8-0
